PRO'S CORNER: PROSHARP PROFILING

Whether you call it a radius, rocker, contour, profile, you cannot deny the impact of a proper cut on your skates that matches you unique skating style. In the past profiles were commonly done on a standard skate sharpening machine using contour bars or even by eye. While effective, you were very limited to a single contour in set diameters and were subject to a lot more variance, depending on the skill of the pro you left your skates with.

Now, there are several different ways to get the perfect contour and multi-profiles are common. At Binnie’s, we feature the ProSharp Profiling system. The ProSharp profiling system is a digital profiler that gives you the exact profile you want consistently.

WHAT MAKES PROSHARP SO SPECIAL?

ProSharp profiles come in a variety of profiles from the classic singles up to quads and even the brand-new Ellipse. This variety and flexibility make customizing your skates for your game easier than ever. When transitioning to a ProSharp combined profile, we recommend starting with the double profile. These double profiles have one profile in the front half that blends into a second profile in the back half. Profiles such as these can help you get a much more isolated drive point in your stride without sacrificing glide.

Moving up the chain, triples blend three profiles into one. These profiles are designed for the active player and capitalizes on drive points to maximize agility. If you’re a corner digger or love to dangle low in the zone, try a Zuperior triple profile from Binnie’s and ProSharp.

Quad profiles are for the power skaters. Combining 4 profiles into one, gives a subtle change at the 4 main contact points of your blade. When you’re up on your toes, you’ll have a smaller contact point which creates more drive and acceleration, as you move back on the blade, the radius tends to flatten out more transferring more of the energy from your drive to your glide.

The last type of ProSharp profile is the revolutionary Ellipse. In the past, profiling has always been on a uniform circle. The Ellipse changes the dimensions by squeezing the circle into an oval and while it may not appear to make a difference visually, the performance is unparalleled. The scientific concept of the Ellipse is that creates a dynamic drive point, meaning you have a more consistent edge feel no matter where you are on your blade or the ice. More consistency in skating equals more consistency in overall performance.
